South Central Electric has a central air conditioning cycling program to help keep the peak loads down. You could be eligible for a rebate each year.
AIR CONDITIONING
Air Conditioning is a part of almost every home. It is also a big part of the summer peak load. In an effort to reduce the impact of these peak loads, we ask each member with central air conditioning to participate in the air conditioner cycling program. Under this program, the air conditioner is connected to a load management radio control. When a peak load condition exists, the air conditioner compressor will be cycled on and off at fifteen (15) minute intervals. The Cooperative will pay for connecting the air conditioner to the radio control. In September of each year, $25.00 will be credited to every member on the program.
DUAL FUEL HEATING SYSTEMS
Two fuels can be better than one. That is, if you have a dual fuel heating system on the load management rate. You can heat your home with 3 cent per kwh electricity and have all of the other advantages of electric heat. Your other heating system is used as a backup when the electric heat is controlled.
In addition to the low rate, with electric heat you also get:
100% Efficiency
Clean Heat The safest type of heat available
Unsurpassed comfort, and No odors or fumes.
Dual fuel systems are available for your present home, new homes and all electric homes. Whatever your situation, you can use a dual fuel heating system. A rebate up to $500-00 is available for the installation of a dual heating system: Electric furnaces, baseboard heaters, cove heaters and plenum units.
Your water heater may be set too high, but remember that dishwashers may require 140 degree water. Setting the temperature higher than that may waste energy.
Breathe New Life into "Old Reliable"
If you have an older forced air heating system, you can breathe new life into it with a new electric plenum heater. The addition of electricity as your primary heating source, with your old fuel furnace serving as your backup, results in lower costs than replacement, qualifies for the special discount of 3.1 cents per kilowatt hour, and boosts your system efficiency to 100%.
The electric heater is placed into the plenum area above your furnace. Each installation is unique, so ask for more details on how you can add a plenum heater to your furnace.
For New Construction
Why not insist on the cleanest, safest heating system available? With a dual fuel heating system you will get clean efficient electric heat at a cost that is competitive with other fuels. No odors, or leaking fuel lines, no pilot lights or starting mechanisms to worry about with your primary heat. Your backup heating system is used only when South Central Electric must control use at peak times.
Your backup system can be a fossil fuel furnace; or, why not maintain the advantages of your electric heat and use an electric heat storage system to heat your home with low off peak rates. Get the newest in comfortable heating systems with a slab heat storage system below the basement floor. Keep the lowest level in the house comfortable regardless of the temperature outside.
The All Electric Home
Room storage heaters can be used to convert an all electric home to a dual fuel home. Your existing electric heater is used most of the time. Use one or more storage heaters to keep the living areas of the house warm while the rest of the electric heat at 3.1 cent discount per kilowatt hour for your resistance or radiant heaters or the storage heater. The resistance heat is only off for a few hours just a few days each year. You get the benefits every day that you use heat.
LOAD MANAGEMENT WATER HEATER PROGRAM
South Central Electric Association is involved in a load management water heater program. The program involves the installation of a radio control device that is wired to the water heater. Depending on the situation and the code selected for you, the water heater can be off as little as four hours on peak days or up to sixteen hours everyday. The code and the amount of time the water heater will be under load management control will be determined by individual circumstances.
The radio control is a gray box that is mounted on the outside of the house and wired to the water heater. The control has three lights on the front cover. The green light is used only for inspection purposes. The top red light is used to indicate when the water heater is under load management control. The lower red light is used to indicate control on electric heat or central air conditioning (if nothing has been wired to that relay, nothing will be turned off during that control period).
A benefit to participating in the program is free maintenance. If an element or thermostat fails on your water heater, the coop will have it repaired at no charge. If your water heater leaks, you will qualify for a replacement water heater.
Option 1: For $120.00 and an agreement to stay on the load management program five years, the coop will install a 80 or 100 gallon Sepco (concrete lined) water heater. The 80 or 100 gallon water heater capacity will allow many families to be under load management control up to sixteen hours per day without any problem.
STORAGE HEAT
Storage heating systems have been developed over many years.
Storage heating systems are recharged over night and give clean uniform heat during the day. This is one of the most economical heating systems available today.
Existing electric homes will be provided a room storage heater FREE if they convert the entire heating system to off peak. In other cases $30.00 per KW will be paid as a rebate.
Slab Heating
With heating cables buried in sand below the lowest level of the house, you get uniform heat with no heat ducts, registers or vents. Its easy to install for new construction and almost no maintenance is required.
Off peak electric storage heat is one of the most economical heating systems available.
Warm Room Storage Heaters
Have you got a cold corner in the basement? Are you adding a room? Want some supplemental heat? Why not consider a room storage heater. Get the clean, safe advantages of electric heat and take advantage of the 3.1 cent per kilowatt hour discount.
Room storage heaters are reheated over night so that you can use the stored heat during the day. Use one to add a little comfort to a cool room or wherever you want supplemental heat. Room storage heaters can be used to convert an all electric home to a dual fuel home. Use one or more to keep the living areas of the house warm while the rest of the electric heat for the house is shut off. You get all of your electric heat at a reduced rate. The electric heat is only off for a few hours just a few days each year. You get the benefits every day that you use heat.
GENERATOR BACKUP PROGRAM
Members with generator back-up systems that take advantage of this program will receive a 1.25 cent discount credit per metered kilowatt-hour.
ENERGY INTELLIGENT FARM OR BUSINESS
Grants are available to farms and businesses for new and retrofit electrical conservation projects that reduce electrical energy consumption and peak demand.
